To qualify for the RDSP, the person with the disability must…
1. Be under the age of 60*
2. Be a Resident of Canada
3. Have a Valid Social Insurance Number
4. Be Approved for the Disability Tax Credit
If you do not have the Disability Tax Credit, you must apply for it by completing an application form and submitting it to the federal government. It is a two-part form. Part A is completed by the applicant or a representative of the applicant. Part B is completed by the appropriate medical practitioner. To access the form, click here.
*The last year an RDSP can be opened is the year the person with the disability turns 59.
